Started with various ideas surrounding habitat destruction and animal extinction. quick and rough sketches in graphite pencil to start from

Three ideas, initially in graphite pencil sketch form then tidied up with fineliner to nail down ideas. Of the three the homeless orangutan felt like it had the most legs for a full colour representation.

From the sketch I enlarged the work to A3 and added additionally detail while removing some of the entourage to clean up the framing. I tried to make the people as ambiguous as possible and only coloured the items in the scene that conveyed the message to make the key ideas jump out at the viewer.

Before colouring the work above I took a photo and used it as a basis for clear linework in rhino. I added additional detail and converted the rhino into a more cartoonish flat shaded design to make it pop more in the overall composition. I then imported the linework into photoshop to use as a formwork for a digital collage using seamless textures from adobe stock and the Dosch series as a framework to do context aware fills on the various areas.
